The judge handed down four years behind bars, but Millwood was eligible for parole in 2018 after just two years in prison.
The man, who we cannot legally name, said in a statement that he decided to take legal action against Millwood because of the convicted pedophile’s “lack of remorse and aggravating conduct”.
He also said the civil lawsuit would hold Millwood accountable for his “crimes and shameful behavior ever since” and that the gigantic payment “” sets a new benchmark for compensation for survivors of sexual abuse. “
This judgment tears apart decades of lies, persecution and underhand dealings by Millwood aimed at discrediting and intimidating me to silence, “he said.
“But as he intimidated me before and during the legal process, as he spread offensive insults and mired in deception, the more lucid I became: I saw this as a moral and ethical battle, not just a legal battle. “
The man went on to stand up for survivors of child sexual abuse all over the world, condemning those who face blame and unfair treatment by the legal system.
“No survivor of child sexual abuse should be the victim of blame, gaslighting, harassment, abuse of defamation laws, surveillance by private investigators to intimidate and arguments that children can consent to sexual abuse. ”
The survivor also described the lifelong impact child sexual abuse can have on a person’s life.
“He recognizes that this impact is felt in all aspects of life, directly causes physical and psychological injuries and has negative long-term economic consequences,” he said.
“I am very proud of what my legal team has accomplished. It is a victory for all survivors of child abuse.”
John Wayne Millwood is a 75 year old man who ran a pathology practice in Launceston.
Millwood would use the pretext of medical exams as a cover to abuse his victims despite not being a real doctor.
During civil proceedings, Millwood attempted to claim that the 10-year-old child he assaulted consented to the sexual abuse.
Chief Justice Alan Blow said when rendering his ruling that the survivor clearly suffers from PTSD as well as other mental disorders, including major depressive disorder, as a direct result of the sexual abuse he suffered at his hands. from Millwood.
Judge ordered Millwood to pay victim $ 5,313,500.
