Commission to examine natural gas contract


The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be broadcast live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed live via Microsoft Teams. Citizens can view the meeting through their own login or by logging in anonymously.

The agenda includes: A public hearing on the solid waste management plan followed and a resolution adopting the plan; a resolution establishing a public records, documents and inquiries policy for Barton County; the purchase of four rotary mowers and a mowing tractor for the Service des Ponts et Chaussées; a mini injury prevention grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for a community baby shower next summer; using American Rescue Plan Act funds to help Fire District Number 1 purchase 800 MHz mobile radios, portable radios, and pagers; and a Woodriver Energy natural gas sales agreement to help balance the county’s gas bills in extreme cold weather.

Following the agenda of the meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 10:00 am or after the close of the agenda meeting – generator replacement in the health department, and equipment needs and repairs for landfill with Phillip Hathcock, solid waste / facilities manager.

• 10:30 am – Reinstatement of the BJA Second Chance Act for Adults with Substance Use Disorders and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Drug Free Communities Support Program Award with Head of grants and compliance Sue Cooper, director of community corrections for central Kansas, Amy Boxberger; and the director of juvenile services, Marissa Woodmansee.

• 10:45 am – Risk Management and Insurance Request for Proposal review with Emergency Risk Manager Amy Miller.

• 11:15 am – Request for Review of Information Technology Computer Replacement Project Proposal with CIO Dereck Hollingshead.

• 11:30 am – Truck repairs with County Construction Manager Darren Williams.

• 11:45 am – Inspection service agreement with KDOT with County Engineer Barry McManaman.

• 1:15 pm – Two hour executive session with Osenbaugh & Deardoff Consulting regarding the search for county administrators.

• 3:30 pm – Regular business discussion with Acting County Administrator Barry McManama and County Clerk Donna Zimmerman. This will include a geology proposal for the county sand pit.
