Darlington’s sickening collection of child abuse images

A PERVERT who searches the dark web for images of dead children being raped has been branded ‘utterly depraved’ when convicted for his sickening behavior.

John Grant hid the gruesome images on a USB stick after downloading them while living with his elderly parents.

The 58-year-old had recorded at least three images and videos of unidentified men raping the corpses of children aged from a teenager to a baby, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Recorder Gurdial Singh told Grant he had to “search high and low for these images” as they are not readily available on the internet.

He said: ‘It’s fair to say that the veteran officer, who filed them, said the footage is deeply disturbing – it shows the rape of dead children and the other raped children appear to be in some distress.

“He added this ‘these are some of the most extreme images seen by me and my colleagues in our forensic careers’ which truly say all that needs to be said.”

Handing down a custodial sentence of eight months, the judge added: “A dissuasive sentence must be imposed given the totally depraved nature of these images”.

Uzma Khan, prosecuting, told the court how his USB drive was searched by specially trained police officers and admitted that he was responsible for all the images stored on it.

During an interview with the police, the defendant said: “There is no point in lying. I wish I hadn’t – I’m disgusted with myself; it ruined everything.

Miss Khan described the details of the most sickening images describing how they included a little girl who was raped, a teenage girl who died, a young girl and a baby, who were raped or sexually abused.

Grant, of Eden Crest, Darlington, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children – six in Category A, the most serious offence, 47 in Category B and 47 in the category C, following the raid on his address in March 2021.

Amrit Jandoo, by way of mitigation, said his client had no previous convictions, but his daughter had come to court in support of her father, despite being “completely shocked” by his offence.

He said Grant agreed to have searched the “dark web” to find the images before uploading them.

Grant was also placed on a ten-year sexual abuse prevention order.
