FY22 budget wins top national honor

The Association of Government Finance Officers of the United States and Canada (GFOA) presented a distinguished budget presentation award to Macon-Bibb County for its fiscal year 2022 budget, which runs from July 1, 2021 as of June 30, 2022.

In order to receive this award, Macon-Bibb had to publish a budget document that met the program’s criteria as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. According to the GFOA letter, “This award is the highest form of recognition in government budgeting. Its achievement represents a significant achievement of your organization. »

“We are extremely proud of our budget and finance teams for their hard work and effort on this budget,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “This is a crucial piece of the puzzle to ensure the prosperity of our county, and our team has surpassed itself by obtaining this national recognition.

About the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Board on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA Best Practices in Budgeting, and then recognize individual governments that are successful in achieving this goal.

Documents submitted to the Budget Allocations Program are reviewed by selected GFOA professional staff and external reviewers with experience in public sector budgeting. The program is open for submissions from any type of government (general purpose or special purpose) at the state or local level that makes an operating budget document available to the general public as a download or hard copy, regardless of the length of the budget period (annual/biennial/triennial).
