KPD: 3 teenagers, 1 from Kearny, charged with carjacking, assault on vehicle owner

July 4 at 4:01 a.m.Officer Paul Duran and several alternate officers responded to a report of an ongoing carjacking at the Quick Chek store at 238 Kearny Avenue. beaten while he was on the ground, by a group of men.

One of the men allegedly took the victim’s car key and tried to start his car, but damaged the key in the process. Unable to figure out how to start the car, one of the assailants reportedly asked the victim to take him away, but that bridge, apparently, had already burned down.

The suspects then ran down Bergen Avenue.

sergeant. Tim Castle found the three suspects at Chestnut and Dukes streets. After further investigation, the three men were taken into custody. They were later identified as a 15-year-old Kearny boy, a 13-year-old Franklin boy and a 16-year-old Dover boy.

The three suspects have been charged with felony charges of carjacking, conspiracy, burglary, attempted felony (theft) and common assault. A juvenile admissions officer ordered all three to be remanded to a county youth detention center.
