To draw attention to the month of April, which is both Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month, North Center is hosting a number of events.
North Center has been providing sexual assault services for over 30 years and child abuse services for over 15 years, providing a one stop shop in Lorain and Huron County where 24 hours a day, 7 days a 7, 365 adult survivors of sexual assault and abuse can receive emotional support. and advocacy, emergency medical services and evidence gathering.
North Center provides services to child survivors of sexual and physical abuse using a collaborative approach that reduces potential trauma for children by limiting the number of times they have to tell their story.
The agency also provides children with medical evaluations in a child-friendly environment.
This month, the agency will display its clothesline project in locations around Lorain and Huron counties, according to a news release.
This project is modeled after the original Clothesline project that began in 1990 in Hyannis, Mass.
The Nord Center currently has a collection of several hundred hand-decorated, immensely impactful t-shirts made by survivors of sexual assault and child abuse who have chosen to leave them with our program to share with others. others, the statement said.
The Clothesline project will be exhibited at the following locations and dates: April 11-15, North Center Main Campus, 6140 S. Broadway in Lorain; April 18-23, Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria; and April 25-29, Lorain High School, 2600 Ashland Ave.
Survivors and advocates can also show their support by wearing blue on April 13 to show support for sexual assault and child abuse awareness, respectively, the statement said.
